Suicide:

Men are 4 times more likely than women to take their own lives. Ireland has the 6th highest rate of suicide in the EU. 

Co. Leitrim has the 2nd highest incidence of suicide in Ireland. 50% of all suicide victims last year had no previous psychiatric history.
The incidence of suicide is highest among young males with 70% being in the 15-27 age group. 65%of all the victims had alcohol in their systems. A round figure of 500 people takes their own lives in this country each year.

There are 11,000 admissions to A&E departments each year with self-harm. However, for every one person presenting themselves 6 others do not report to or present themselves to any professional for help. The highest incidence of self-harm is in the 15-19 age group female.
300,000 people in this country suffer from depression. Depression and undiagnosed depression are sometimes linked to or associated with suicide.
